AVID -TMG1011 (Year) Grade 8

This course is designed to prepare students for college preparatory course work (e.g. Advance Placement) with emphasis on:
• inquiry
• reflective writing,
• organizational and study skills
• note-taking and research.

* Additional procedure required including a written application and interview.
Applications are available in the office.
Applicant will be notified if they are admitted to the program.

Band (Beginning) -FMB0400 (Year) [Grade 6, 7, 8]

A course using band instruments to develop a deeper sense of thinking, feeling and doing music.

After exploration of singing and mouthpieces an instrument will be assigned for further study.
Topics included are music reading, developing instrumental technique, instrument maintenance, listening and reflecting on various selections, relating musical moods to real life.
Regular practice outside of class is useful to ensure success.

This class will perform in evening concert on campus.

Band (Intermediate)-FMB0700 (Year) [Grade 7, 8]

This course is designed for students who successfully completed a year of introduction or beginning band.

Further study of reading music, and higher levels of musical understanding are sought while reinforcing the basics necessary for success.
Regular practice is necessary to ensure student success.

This class will perform in evening performances both on and off campus.

Yearbook -XYY0620 (Year) Grade 8

This course introduces students to planning and producing the school’s yearbook and using technology tools for production.
Writing of copy, captions, and headlines; designing and completing layouts; working with photography; and meeting deadlines are included.

Requirements: Parent approval of Student Publication/Video Release Form and Internet Acceptable Use Policy.

Industrial Art-XWG0021 (Semester) Grade 8

This course seeks to acquaint students with technology through problem-solving experiences, while reinforcing the academic core.
It’s designed to provide students with experiences that promote the development of knowledge, basic skills and attitudes for living effectively and managing the human and material resources in our society.

To be paired with Robotics Grade 8.

A $20.00 lab fee will be assessed .at the beginning of the semester.

Robotics-XWG0021B (Semester) Grade 8

This class provides students a next step through building and programming basic robots.
Students will utilize the scientific method and critical thinking and probalem solving processes involving science, math, technology, and engineering skills in an interdisciplinary manner.

To be paired with Industrial Arts (IA) 6.

Introduction to Art & Design-FVB0150 (Semester) Grade 8

This one-semester course focuses on the exploration of a limited scope of art media and techniques for personal expression and provides students with further opportunities to apply the elements and principles of design in imaginative solutions to visual problems.

To be paired with:
• Video Production
or
• Introduction to Animation 8.

Introduction to Animation-XMD0012A (Semester) Grade 8

Students enrolled in this course will explore various techniques for creating and animating 2-Dimensional shapes.
Students will utilize their language arts skills and artistic skills to write original scripts, animate characters and draw backgrounds for story scenes.
Students will learn to edit this footage and add voice-overs to create an animated video story

Requirements: Parent approval of Student Publication/Video Release Form and Internet Acceptable Use Policy and permission to create a gmail account.

To be paired with Introduction to Art & Design Grade 8.

Video Production-XMD0012V (Semester) Grade 8

Students enrolled in this course will participate in the pitching, planning, researching, and writing of scripts to be produced into various videos.
Students will learn filming and editing techniques for video and sound elements, using cameras, computers and other multi-media tools. Students are expected to work collaboratively and independently under the guidance of the instructor.

Requirements: Parent approval of Student Publication/Video Release Form and Internet Acceptable Use Policy and permission to create a gmail account.
